Geevor Tin Mine in Pendeen, Penzance will be holding a number of excellent events throughout the summer. With a hands-on approach to learning you will be able to experience living history!
Visitors will be able to watch rock drills and muckers running, have a go at panning, hand drilling, kibble filling and box hole building; a truly immersive experience.
Geevor will be hosting Poldark Days on Mondays and Thursdays, Storytelling Tuesdays with Mark Harandon and John Brolly as well as face painting with Funny Faces Penzance. There will also be Wild Wednesdays with a variety of wildlife guests: Screech Owl Sanctuary, Mark's Ark, Cornwall Seal Research Trust and their first Seal Squad XP Roadshow Festival, Marine Rescue Group. On Fridays and Tuesdays, local artist Rory Te Tigo will be doing stone carving workshops.
They will have former miners on site telling their very own stories on Sundays and Fridays giving children and adults alike the chance to hear first-hand what life down the mines was really like.
GEEVOR GALA DAY on Friday, August 3rd will be a full day of mining fun! You will find many former miners on site chatting to the public as well as musical performances and hands-on-activities.
These events will be an excellent opportunity for visitors and locals alike to learn more about our plentiful and proud mining history. Geevor is set within the Cornish World Heritage Site Landscape and an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and if all that wasn’t enough it is on a beautiful Cornish cliff overlooking the sea!
