Tavistock Museum
Legacy of a mining past
Tavistock in West Devon is a town that, while it has adapted to changing needs, has managed to retain in its activities, buildings, and atmosphere, a real feeling for the past. Over the course of a thousand years, it has been a monastery town, a market town and a mining town. Tavistock Museum tells this story through artefacts, displays, DVDs and exhibitions.
And there’s so much to discover in the town itself – a vibrant Pannier Market open daily from Tuesday to Saturday, many small shops offering a wide variety of specialist goods, and pleasant riverside and old railway line walks.
